Cricket jargon - one of the ways in which a batsman can be given out. It occurs when a batsman attempting a shot dislodges one or more of the wicket's bails with his bat or person.

The batsman need not necessarily be attempting a shot at the time and the bail must be more than dislodged, it must actually come off the stumps. It is possible for the bail to dislodge slightly and remain on top of the stumps. I believe that it has been known for a bail to actually be knocked upwards from the stumps and return onto the top of the stumps, in which case the batsman is not out. In these cases, his wicket is not 'put down'.
